LICENSE SUSPENDED. DR. ROBERT ATKINS, 62, diet-book author; in New York. Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution (1972) made Atkins a fortune promoting a diet featuring high-fat foods like bacon and butter. Now his yen for unlikely cures may finish his career. He advocates the use of ozone gas to treat cancer and AIDS, but last September when a patient in his office who was injecting herself with ozone complained of headaches and weakness, Atkins allegedly waited hours before sending her to a hospital, leading the New York health commissioner to call Atkins' medical practice "an imminent danger to the health of the people of this state." Facing a hearing, the diet guru says he is being harassed for his belief in alternative medicine.
